Retail Investor

What is a Retail Investor?

This is just a fancy label for you, me, and anyone else investing their personal money. You aren't a massive Wall Street fund or a big bank; you are just an individual buying a few shares through a regular brokerage account. In India, SEBI classifies anyone applying for an IPO with an amount under ₹2 lakhs as a retail bidder. Because their capital is small, retail investors usually get a dedicated quota in public issues, though the allotment is often done via a heavily oversubscribed lucky draw.
