/QIP Full Form
The full form of QIP is Qualified Institutional Placement.
When a large listed company needs emergency cash quickly, it issues new shares to major mutual funds or foreign investors. SEBI created this route so companies don't have to waste months doing paperwork for a full public offer. Only massive institutions are allowed to buy these shares, not regular retail investors. You will usually see stock prices drop moderately when a QIP is announced because it increases the total number of shares in circulation.
