The full form of FPI is Foreign Portfolio Investor.
Whenever you hear on the news that foreign money is pumped into the market today, this is who they are talking about. These are big foreign institutions or funds that register with SEBI to buy Indian stocks and bonds. They bring in massive capital, which is great, but they are also known to pull out their money suddenly if global markets panic. That sudden selling is usually what causes those big red days on the NSE and BSE.
