/Maintenance Margin
If you trade Futures and Options, your broker won't let your account balance hit absolute zero. They legally require you to maintain a minimum cash buffer at all times. If your open trades start losing money and your balance dips below this specific level, the broker’s system will immediately block you from taking new trades. If it falls even further, they will call you demanding that you deposit more cash immediately, or they will forcefully close your positions. It is essentially the broker's safety net to ensure you can meet your obligations.
