Market Lot

What is a Market Lot?

You can't just buy a single unit of a Futures or Options contract. Exchanges force you to buy a fixed minimum bundle, known as the market lot. If the lot size is 250, you are buying 250 shares at once, which makes the total contract value quite large. Stock exchanges in India regularly revise these lot sizes based on the share prices to keep the contracts affordable for retail traders. While index options like Nifty still have massive lot sizes, many single-stock futures have recently shrunk their lot sizes to one share.
